Cabbage Protects Against Bladder Cancer...

A diet high in vegetables like cabbage could protect against bladder cancer, a New Zealand scientist who led a team of researchers into the subject reported. Agricultural scientist Rex Munday said tests on animals showed that an extract of broccoli sprouts reduced the incidence of bladder cancer by more than 50 per cent.

He said researchers from Roswell Park Cancer Institute and John Hopkins University, in the United States, had worked on the project with New Zealand’s Massey University and Crop & Food Research. The findings supported an earlier study showing that rats fed with vegetables of cabbage family, such as broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and watercress, showed an increase in tissue enzymes that protect against cancer causing chemicals.

“The greatest effect was seen in the bladder, suggesting that such vegetables would protect against bladder cancer”, Munday said. “This result is consistent with epidemiological studies showing that people who have high dietary intake of plants of the cabbage family are les likely to develop bladder cancer than those who eat only small amounts of these vegetables.

Munday said bladder cancer was a major problem, particularly in Western countries, being diagnosed in more than 300,000 people every year worldwide. It is the fourth commonest cancer in men and in the eight in women. The researchers are now working on other vegetables to find more effective materials that could prevent bladder cancer.

Bill and Melinda Gates: No Apple Gear In Our House...

Melinda Gates, who is married to Bill Gates, won't buy an iPhone or iPod. One of the richest women in the world covets an iPhone. But she's not allowed to have one.
Melinda Gates- yes, of Microsoft's Gates Family- is qouted in the latest issue of Vogue Magazine as saying, "Every now and then I look at my friends and say, "Ooh, I wouldn't mind having that iPhone".

However, she and Bill Gates- who co-founded the Microsoft empire, which of course is the arch enemy of Apple- have a policy against iPods and iPhones. "There are very few things that are on the banned list in our household," Melinda Gates said. "But iPods and iPhones are two things we don't get for our kids.

No iPods or iPhones for the kids? It's possibly the one area in which the gates children could be described as deprived. Which probably makes the gates offspring the only ones at school with Microsoft's Zune music players.

Poor kids...

Computer Most Wanted Enemy...

DUST is your worst computer's enemy, and dust can accumulate quickly inside your PC, if it is placed on the floor. So cleaning it regularly is important. If your home is dusty, cleaning your PC out every month is a good idea. Turn off and unplug your PC before opening it up to vacuum out dust. Also do not touch any of your computer's sensitive electronic components.

Please do not show sympathy to people selling buds on roadside or at signals... Just wanted to warn you people not to buy those packs of ear buds you get at the roadside. It's made from cotton that has already been used in hospitals. They take all the dirty, blood and pus filled cotton, wash it, bleach it and use it to make ear buds. So, unless you want to become the first person in the world to get Herpes Zoster Oticus (a viral infection of the inner, middle, and external ear) of the ear and that too from a cotton bud, DON'T BUY THEM!

I'm calling your attention to know if this news is true or not.

$45 Billion Net Worth The Fourth Richest Person In The World...

Lakshmi Niwas Mittal is an Indian industrialist based in the United Kingdom. He is the fourth richest person in the world with a net worth of around U.S. $45 billion. He was born in Sadulpur village, in the Churu district of Rajasthan, India, and he resides in Kensington, London. He is the chairman and CEO of ArcelorMittal (founder of Mittal before merger with Arcelor) and also serves as a non-executive director of Goldman Sachs, EADS and ICICI Bank.

Mittal was born in a Rajasthan Agrawal family and spent his initial years in India, living with his extended family on bare floors and rope beds in a house built by his grandfather.[citation needed] His grandfather worked for the Tarachand Ghanshyamdas Poddar, one of the leading industrial firms of India. His father started an Oil Mill in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh as a working partner for Lala Gulab Chand, a local business tycoon. The family eventually moved to Calcutta where his father, Mohan, became a partner in a steel company and made a fortune.

After witnessing India win only one medal, bronze, in the 2000 Summer Olympics, and one medal, silver, at the 2004 Summer Olympics, Mittal decided to set up Mittal Champions Trust with US$9 million to support 10 Indian athletes with world-beating potential. In 2008 Mittal awarded Abhinav Bindra with Rs. 1.5 Crore, for getting India its first individual Olympic gold medal in shooting.

For Comic Relief 2007, he matched the money raised (~£1 million) on the celebrity special BBC programme, The Apprentice.
